This week is bus safety week

All this week, Fernbank will be celebrating “National School Bus Safety Week” a program created by the National Association of Pupil Transportation, to educate students on school bus safety and the benefits of taking the bus. This year we are partnering with Georgia Commute Schools, a program of Georgia Commute Options, designed to encourage students to ride the school bus, carpool and take transit to help reduce traffic around schools and improve our air!

Did you know that riding a bus to school is the safest way for children to get to and from school? It’s safer than walking or riding a bike and even 13 times safer than riding in the family car, per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Having your child take the bus a couple of days a week, or just for the morning or afternoon ride, can make a difference in air quality. Support our school bus safety program and you’ll not only help create a healthier environment for our students, but you’ll help reduce traffic congestion and increase safety in school zones. Plus, the ride to school is more fun with a buddy on the school bus!

Through education and fun activities, we hope to improve school bus safety on and off the bus, around our schools, and in our neighborhoods, but we need your help! Please work with your child to review the school bus safety tips.
